The Dark Knight Rises

I finally saw ,The Dark Knight Rises. The movie is Epic as hell. Enough said. With an hour of actual Imax footage, It is definitely more than worth it, to go to Imax and would be near to a sin to watch it at home.

If the Scarecrow was meant to induce fear, and the Joker to create chaos, Bane is pure destruction. Even with the mask on, you could feel the anguish and Reason for his carnage.

Tom hardy maybe didn't rival out The joker in delivery of personal chaos and suspense but was still perfect for the role along with those precise mind blowing punches :O and given the Magnitude of his plan. Almost every dialogue in the movie is worth going down in the books, and caine ( alfred ) delivered them with Oscar worthy flawlessness. Catwoman ( Anne Hathway) may not have her whip, but executes her role perfectly with Panache in those silicon heels.

Special shout to Hans Zimmer who developed that epic soundtrack which will give you chills throughout the movie. you have JUST got to believe in 'Christopher Nolan' and commend the Standard he has set with this trilogy.

Fits all expectations, maybe even more and is an impeccable end to the epic trilogy.

Steps for Undergrad Education in UK - III

Step six
Take any other additional tests. Some universities require additional testing. They have different examinations which would be basic English, maths and critical thinking skills check. Primarily , Oxbridge has these tests. Example : TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment) is the sort-of-entrance exam to politics ,philosophy and economics courses to the university of oxford. It is because of the high level of competition these tests have been initiated.

So, when you choose your universities , Don't Forget to write an email to each university asking for your specific course requirements and what all exactly needs to be done.

For Example; I chose city university as one of my 5 choices.Luckily, I had the chance to go visit the university last summer. Only then did i find out, that i needed to be at least 17 years and 8 months old to enter the course while i would be only 17 years and 2 months when i joined college. If i hadn't know this information, i would have been denied a place at the university and It would be too late by then to apply anywhere else.
________________________________________________________________________
Step seven
Personal Statement. undeniably , a very important part of your UCAS application. It is a 4000 character, 47 line or around 600 words essay ( concentrate on your character count and not word count). It is your statement of purpose to enter the university reflecting yourself as an individual.

writing your personal statement can be one of the most satisfying--or frustrating--writing experiences you'll ever have.

The personal statement is an important part of your application package. Depending on the topic you choose, the essay you write provides additional evidence of your intellectual and creative achievement. The essay is also the only opportunity for the readers of your application to get a feel for you as a person as well as for you as a student. The essay is also the place where you can put your academic and co-curricular record into the context of your opportunities and obstacles.

There is no one correct way to write a personal statement

1) Getting your grammar, spelling and punctuation is extremely important and there is no room for error.
2) You basically need to show that your determined and passionate about the subject
3) This is a chance for you to describe yourself and remember that there might be another thousand students with the same qualifications as you have, but it is You as a person that might be different, SO, the Personal statement is where you can shine depending on how you do it.

Take time, Draft , redraft and again redraft. Give your PS to family, councellors and teachers to proofread, as it is impossible to proofread your own essay.

Remember, plagiarism is the biggest mistake you can ever do. At any cost do not ever copy someone else's personal statement . Trust me , the UCAS have specialized software's to find out copy cats and your admission into the UK will be in jeopardy. You can refer to other personal statements for help and in fact its even advised you do so, but never copy.

Go the following link on UCAS and it will help you out a lot . but do check your course specific previous sample personal statement to get an idea, but refrain from using anything from the old ones. come up with you own personal story.

Check out this 37 minute video. It is extremely helpful and will answer almost all of your questions

This is the best video online for helping you out with your personal statement.

Steps for UK undergrad education - List

The easier way to understand and get through the UK undergrad admission process with our 12 step process explaining what to do and how to do it. These Steps should optimally start in grade 9 and get really serious by grade 11. Even if you are in grade 12, don't panic, there is still time .

Imp: If you are thinking about Oxford or Cambridge, your deadline for submitting your UCAS application is October 15; for most other universities in UK, the deadline is January 15th. But, my core advice to you would be to submit your application as soon as possible as UK admissions are based on first-come-first-serve basis. It means that if the place in the uni is already been given to a person and even if a more qualified candidate is available, the earlier one will still retain his place.

Step eight to step ten are not a part of the procedure and need to be developed well in advance.

Click on each step for detailed information.
Step One    -   Decide why UK ?
Step Two   -    Money Matters
Step Three  -   Understand the UCAS
Step Four   -   Research your Universities
Step Five    -   Take Your IELTS
Step Six      -   Take any other Additional tests
Step Seven -    Personal Statement
Step Eight   -   Work Experience
Step Nine   -    Grade 10 results & Predicted Grades
Step Ten     -   Co - Curricular
Step Eleven -   References
Step Twelve -  Send your application

The Oxford and Cambridge university have different entrance procedures. Check them out thoroughly and i don't think i can explain the process any easier than these two great universities have done themselves, check out their videos and Go to their websites.

Steps for Undergrad Education in UK - II

Step 4

Research your Universities. This is something that takes a lot of time, honestly! The UK allows you to choose 5 universities to apply for. So , you need to take this decision carefully. Optimal way of choosing your five universities would be to choose 2 top class universities you have always dreamed of getting into, 2 medium rank universities and finally a back option of a much easier university to get into.

Attention !! Remember that when choosing 5 options on the UCAS form, you are Choosing 5 courses ! It might be 2 courses from the same university .  Example : You can take up two places on the UCAS by selecting Bsc Eco & Finance and Bsc Accounting And Finance in the same University. Attention !!

Firstly, check out rankings of various universities and make sure that you are checking the course specific ranking and not the overall ranking.
For instance, ( fictional example. ) if you are planning to do a medicine course, while Imperial college of London might rank 3rd best university overall, they might be raking 57th in medicine.( fictional example. )

Secondly, you might want to choose your university depending on its location, size, acceptance rate and various other characteristics you might be looking for. For example, if you are looking for those type of universities with huge campuses stretching acres over lush green fields, City university might not be the right option; Though city is an excellent choice for people who enjoy the city life. Moreover, Living expenses in universities based in middle of London maybe much higher than those outside of London. So there are many factors you really need to consider.

Finally, When you choose your universities, remember to make a word document with your five universities and all the essential information associated with it. Primarily , the UCAS code, location, fees and a contact email address. Be organized , Trust me .

NOTE: Email all your final selected universities, questioning them on the entry requirements. There might be some universities that do not accept certain curriculum ( such as the CBSE, ICSE , etc ) so, do your research thoroughly.

This is an excellent website to check out rankings and has a mini fact file too, but do check out other websites and get the general idea, before making the final decision. And Remember, Ranking is not the Final tiebreaker, research about all the other factors you should consider.

______________________________________________________________________
Step 5
Take your IELTS. It is very important you try finishing of the IELTS as soon as possible. It has a 2 year validity, so, the best time would be during end of year 11 or year 12 summer vacation. The IELTS is honestly a very easy test. It just checks whether you can read, write and converse in English. If you have been able to read my posts and understand what I am saying, you already can achieve a 6 or 7 out of 9.

Confusion Between IELTS and TOEFL
Both are credited and acknowledged testing systems for English, but again it would be more preferable if you gave the country's preferred testing system.

UK and Australia Prefer the IELTS
US and Canada Prefer the TOEFL
Again these preferences may or may not be true,(i.e) why email your universities asking them all the entry requirements you need to fulfill, but mostly almost every university in the UK accepts both the IELTS and TOEFL.

The IELTS has two categories - GT and AC
General Training is for emigration purposes while colleges will be requiring the AC- Academic Module.( But still confirm this with your selected university)
The IELTS is a Four part Test
  • Reading
  • Listening
  • Writing
  • SPEAKING
ALERT !
The reason I capitalized speaking, is because not only is the test nerve racking for the most of us, but there is a huge mistake most of the people giving the IELTS make. The speaking test is held mostly on a different date, which can be anytime within a week Before or After the Actual written exam date. SO, do call up the British council well in advance like a week before and confirm the date and time of your written and speaking test.

Don't worry too much about it. With Some basic test format familiarity and a few practice tests, you will easily ace this test.

Go to their website and read thoroughly - IELTS Website
Register for the Next immediate test at your nearest British council . (The test costs 875DHS in the UAE)

Step One
Convince yourself, why you want to go abroad, ask yourself what your ambitions are and where you see yourself in the future. Does your life and career goal support your need to go abroad for higher studies? You need to take this seriously and need to put your head into it, because there is a lot of money which is going to be invested on you and you need to make complete use of it .It takes some deep self-reckoning, but it has to be done to really answer whether it’s worth it or not.
________________________________________________________________________

Step Two
Finance. You are going to have to sit and talk seriously about this approx. 22000 pound per year, for the next 3 years investment in yourself with your parents/Guardians.It is probably the most important part. Finances include your tuition fees, accommodation, living and social expenses, stationary expenses etc.

For more details

Living costs given below is a well average of hostel fees, food, and social expenses etc but can vary a lot depending on various factors such as own accommodation, sharing, boarding etc.

Social science Courses including business
Tuition - averages out to 12000 pounds
Living costs -  7000 - 9000 pounds

Science courses
Tuition - averages out to 16000 pounds
Living costs -  7000 - 9000 pounds

Medicine
Tuition - averages out to 25000 pounds
Living costs -  7000 - 9000 pounds

*The elite colleges charge more. Example : oxford charges 16000 Pounds for Economics*

If they haven't agreed, it's completely fine, you could save up all that money and live your life in college somewhere else or be smarter and invest in a business or the stock market. It is no way possible to pay for your education by yourself.
* NRI : The maximum amount Indian banks allow on education loan for an university abroad is 20 laks (22000 GBP) which may be able to cover up to an year's expenses. Not completely sure of this but do look into it *
If they have agreed, congrats and continue to step 3

Always remember that finances are an extremely important criteria and you must have a credible financial support structure for you and your guardians to both sustain their lives normally without one burdening the another. Never take a massive loan or overburden yourselves to study abroad. Yes, there are benefits of studying abroad, but one has to keep finances in mind.
________________________________________________________________________
Step three
Know the UCAS. The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service is the Birtish admission service for students applying to universities in the UK. It is the centralized center for all admissions into UK universities

Do check out their website - UCAS

How It works ?

You can submit the online form between the 1st of September and the 15th January. However, the closing date for applications to the University of Oxford, Cambridge and courses in medicine, dentistry and veterinary science or veterinary medicine is 15th October. The sad fact that makes UK different from most other countries You can only apply to a maximum 5 universities and only 4 for  medicine, Dentistry, and veterinary sciences.
Once you have completed your application;. There are three possible responses to your application:
  • C - Conditional offer
  • U - Unconditional offer
  • R - Reject
Conditional offer - This offer is when the university has given you a conditional place based on your previous academic merit and achievement. The conditions usually consist of a particular set of grades which need to be achieved to confirm your seat in college.

Unconditional offer - A very rare offer given to exceptional students who due to their excellent record have received a guaranteed offer from the university and can join as soon as their term is over.

Check out this video for the application's general overview, But do check out their site for more details

UK undergraduate Education

Why?
I don't think I need to justify, why studying in UK is beneficial. You can check that out on my other posts, but anyways, with over a thousand years of experience in education and knowledge, few would argue, not to go to the UK for higher education.

If you aren't still satisfied, some reasons maybe:
Worldwide Recognition, Education cost are lower than most other countries, Multicultural environment, calm, cool and wet climate (A heaven if you are from Dubai), an excellent opportunity to learn English from the founders themselves, only 3 years of undergrad for most degrees, 1 year stay for work experience (2 years if it’s a Scottish university) and a gateway to Europe.

Check out this video for the benefits of an UK education

Sharukh Khan's New Untitiled movie

Chaos at mega mall, due to some fuse in the projector and got to watch only first 5 miuntes of 'Ek tha tiger'. Extremely disappointing and was a major blow to the Eid mood.

We managed to get a refund though, but grand cinemas had spoiled Eid for many people with the amount of time wasted and frustration caused

But, anyways I got to watch this beautiful teaser trailer of Sharukh's new untitled movie with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma which is due to release on November 13th. It is one of Yash Chopra's romance stories which i think is going to be another bollywood classic.so, check it out.

BTW I did watch the movie later, and it is absolutely horrible. Some Salman khan fans might love it, but I didn't like the movie one bit. If you did like 'Bodyguard' , then you'll like this one too.

But do check out sharukh's new untitled movie's trailer coming out on November 13 2012.

We bought a zoo

This movie , i think is one of the most beautiful movies ever made. It is just so real and heart warming you will get lost in the dialogue and screenplay. I personally, have watched the entire movie thrice and i am the type of person who can never watch the same movie all over again no matter what, but this is just something else.

The movie based on a true story is about a person in his mid-life crisis ( Matt Damon ) , who has just lost his wife and has a son and daughter. The son ( Colid Ford ) has a really tough time grasping the situation and thus, has a hard time settling down .The younger daughter ( Maggie Elizabeth Jones ) is well, more understanding, in a different sense , but has adjusted to the environment. He leaves his city life in search for something peaceful and shifts to the countryside to buy a beautiful house , only later to realize that he has also bought a zoo and now is the custodian of the zoo too.

The zoo is in shambles and is need of an urgent renovation. It needs to be repaired and restored, pass an inspection and open up for the public. Will Benjamin manage all this in time amidst his personal and financial crisis ?

The cheek pinching cute young daughter Rosie, the gorgeous head zoo keeper ( Scarlett Johansson) and Matt Damon's simply amazing natural acting  gives this movie an everlasting presence and will fill your heart up.

The movie should be enjoyed together with family and is a must watch for any person out there. Trust me, the movie Cannot dissapoint you and will leave you with a wide smile on your face.

Watch the movie and share your opinions with us.

Marvel Avengers

For those of you who haven't seen Marvel avengers yet..., I do make a humble request, since i think the movie's already out of most theaters , please do rent it out, or do the other thing ( you know what i mean- get DVDrip or Bluray  )

A piece of Marvelous Kick ass Epic Mind Blowing action ! The movie is amazingly well written by Whedon who does an amazing job with beautiful characterization, awesome dialogues, comedy and of course the Stunning visual effects. It is extremely humorous with Robert Downey just being himself or hulk just smashing things up and its also packed with action and a brilliant storyline.

The movie is everything you expected- cohesive , crowd pleasing and is an absolute paradise for marvel fans.

Do set up you home stereo system completely to play the movie otherwise you will not enjoy it to its full potential.

Its got everything for kids to adults and is a definite must watch for any marvel or superhero fans.

Rating - 89%

Crazy wait for the dark knight Rises

Okay, The movie's released all over the world except the middle east. Why??

Its simply because, the monopolistic theater companies are profit minded and enjoy the misery of the people.  Maybe not the latter part, but they are basically trying to delay the release of the movie in the middle east

primarily because of Ramadan; since we aren't supposed to watch  movies in the holy month of Ramadan, but apparently over here , all we do is either sleep or watch movies at home in Ramadan.

Secondly , it's because they want to release it on the last day of Ramadan or Eid, since EID s  a huge festival in the Islamic world and people are going to be out with families and friends; they're obviously going to go for a movie, so why not release one of the most anticipated biggest blockbuster on that day ...and voila, there you go, Big revenues flowing in.

Anyways , I'm still waiting for august 17th when i finally get to see it, so far, I have tried to ignore all possible contact from my friends in other countries who have managed to see it and are trying to spoil the movie for me.

The final conclusion to the epic is finally coming to Dubai. This movie is going to have to do a lot to impress the dark knight fans because of the master class legacy left by heath ledger that made a comic book super hero movie into one of the best movies ever made. But, still having no doubt in Christopher Nolan's work , i know this is going to be EPIC
.

London Olympics Opening ceremony

A bizarre opening ceremony with a new and fresh style picturing everything that is great in Britain. Rightly said by Danny Boyle, that you can’t beat Beijing anyways, so, just do something completely different and the London 2012 opening ceremony was not anything other than different.

Starting off with Isambard quoting Shakespeare, JK Rowling narrating peter pan and Mary Poppins shooing Voldemort away, the stress on literature was respectable. The compelling narrative of industrial revolution was sensational with its perplexing level of detail.

The legendary Rowan Atkinson was spectacular and delightful with his emblematic acting style and the queen’s movie debut was quite impressive. A great tribute to Sir Tim Berners lee and a stunning performance by Sir Paul McCartney ♥ got the crowd swaying and singing along.

Some would say it turned out to be a bit corny ( or way too boring ), but Boyle has really put a lot of effort into characterization, choreography and individuality and made everyone performing there a star alongside a meaningful subliminal message of national pride, education, development, culture and music rather than just blowing everything up with fancy lights.

A powerful British theatrical using great British humor and history with Boyle’s remarkable storytelling capability. London 2012
