Brilliant Drama Movies - II

I am Sam
I am Sam is a movie about a mentally retarded man whose aging process stops unusually leaving him with the mind of a 7 year old. He has to now fight for custody of his 7 year old daughter against CPS who call him unfit to provide for his child. His case is fortunately taken up by a first-rate lawyer whose own world is crumbling down. In the process of the legal battle, he teaches the callous lawyer the meaning of love and affection. The movie especially illustrates strong performances by Dakota fanning, Sean Penn and Dianne Wiest. A drama film must in every drama fan’s collection.

Quotes
Lucy: [being observed] I want no other daddy but you.
[turns to the glass] Lucy: [shouts] Did you hear that? I said I didn't want any other daddy but him. Why don't you write that down ?

The Perks of being a Wallflower

Emma Watson <3. Based on the novel by Stephen Chbosky, The perks of being a wallflower is Is an uplifting and poignant story of an anxious teen who just entered high school. He is not of the kind who wants to live the life of a party, but rather an introverted kid who just wants to get along with everyone. The movie is a roller coaster of emotions taking us through the highs and lows of an adolescent kid, literally.  The casting done is impeccable, though many might not consider it exactly realistic. Logan Lerman as the main protagonist, Charlie, Emma Watson as the ever beautiful, Sam, and the best of all Ezra Miller as, Patrick pulled off their characters flawlessly. The movie surprisingly strikes a perfect balance between being too dramatic or too preachy and creates for itself a wonderful individual experience of its own nature. The movie is riddled with Strong emotions and nostalgic music. It’s a fresh movie rather than the same old high school drama; bringing out unknown realities of such adolescents into the limelight. It teaches us to participate in life and that we are more than what we have been called or limited down to and that we are truly infinite.

Overall, the author cum director has done an excellent job with the movie and duly deserves a standing ovation. This is a definite must watch and its all the more better and beautiful, if one can relate to it.

Quotes

"I can see it. This one moment when you know you're not a sad story. You are alive and you stand up and see the lights on the buildings and everything that makes you wonder. And you're listening to that song on that drive with the people you love most in this world. And in this moment, I swear, we are infinite." - charlie

"We all deserve the love that we think we deserve" - Charlie

Brilliant Drama Movies - I

Life today has become so composite and complex and we unfortunately get dragged into the same droning race without even realizing it. By the time we try to conceive where we are headed, it would be too late. The most dismaying part is that in this age, it is not only the adults who we would presume are stuck in this dilemma, but even children as young as who can’t multiply 25 times 2 all the way to teenagers fraught to get over with their college applications. What the underlying message I’m trying to convey is that we are losing the ability to appreciate, imagine and find true affection. And Hence drama movies, let us give up all these unnecessary worries and divulge into a land of make believe or reality, however you like it and expresses our innermost desires and ambitions in the most beautiful of ways.

Finding Neverland
I have personally never read peter pan, but I must say that the way this movie was beautifully engineered to, will melt any living creature's heart and lift his soul to an incredible new world. Based on the true story of Barrie’s interaction with the Davies family and how it inspired him to create peter pan. Johnny Depp portraying Sir Matthew Barrie as the main protagonist as usual does a stupendous job and, I don’t think anyone else could have pulled it off better.  His control over the emotions he needs to play out as a writer absorbing natural input from reality into the land of make believe was incredulous.  The gorgeous Kate Winslet as the widow mother who finds new purpose in life with her introduction to Barrie also carries out her role as elegantly as she always does. The movie teaches us to embrace adult realities but also to embrace childlike imagination to deal with life and its obstacles.

"Young boys should never be sent to bed... they always wake up a day older " ~ J.M. Barrie

The Help
The help is an Oscar winning drama and it rightly deserves it. It is about an author who in the 1960’s during the American civil rights movement writes a book about white families through an African- American maid’s point of view. The movie is beautiful, heart wrenching and will definitely get to your heart. The hardships endured by the maids and stigma they went through every day is represented wonderfully through the two maids, Aibileen and Minny. With elements of comedy; Beautiful and strong performances, you will not be disappointed and will be left with a wide smile on your face with watery eyes. Towards the end, when you finally get to the main protagonist's maids story, get ready with a bucket. Octavia spencer's acting as Minny was marvelous and she rightly deserved her Sscar. Please, Do watch this wonderful movie.

Quotes
" Am i going to believe all those bad things, dem fools say about me Today " - Constantine
Aibileen (to young girl): You is kind… You is smart… You is important. -- Most memorable line from the movie
" Eat my Shit.......  Run Minny Runnn... "

Samsung Did Not send those coins to Apple

Many of you might have read these posts on many blogs about Samsung sending 30 trucks with a Billion dollars as penalty payment to apple.

The story is Fake and the reason you see it on many blogs is just because it sounds awesome at the moment and people keep sharing the story without even thinking about it .

By the way, it really sounds like something Samsung should Have actually done as payback to apple. Apple sued Samsung for some Pathetic Design-Based Patents which have no logical standing as designs are merely a fashion or trend. A design is not exactly Innovation per se. Leaving the Apple vs Samsung debate for some other post and coming back to the topic, The story is Fake and can be proved by simple Math.

-  A 5 cent coin weighs 5 grams ( Source - US mint )
-  A Billion Dollars needs 20 Billion 5-cent Coins
-  So, 20 billion 5-cent coins Multiplied by 5 grams = 100 billion Grams
-  100 billion grams = 100 million kilos = 100 thousand tonnes
-  One of the biggest Heavy duty trucks are the Ford F -450's which are primarily used for coal mining and these truck can carry around 300 tonnes approx.

100,000 tonnes divided by 300 tonnes = 334 trucks

Hence , Proved Fake

Coming to the legal part of it, under section 16 of the currency act, 1965 , a tender if made in any denomination of a coin such as a 5 , 10, 20 or 50 cent coins cannot exceed a payment of 5$.

Due to the "illusion Of Truth" effect people believe this story is true just like the countless other crap we see on the internet .So, next time someone goes around flashing this news as True, i give you permission to laugh at them. Just tell them to apply some common sense.

Though, it would really be awesome if Samsung actually did that... it could probably be 30 trucks mixed up with 1, 5 or 20$ bills..

Glossary
Illusion of truth - since humans primarily rely on implicit memory, they are more likely to rate as true those statements which they have already heard somewhere else regardless of its veracity.

The Dark Knight Rises

I finally saw ,The Dark Knight Rises. The movie is Epic as hell. Enough said. With an hour of actual Imax footage, It is definitely more than worth it, to go to Imax and would be near to a sin to watch it at home.

If the Scarecrow was meant to induce fear, and the Joker to create chaos, Bane is pure destruction. Even with the mask on, you could feel the anguish and Reason for his carnage.

Tom hardy maybe didn't rival out The joker in delivery of personal chaos and suspense but was still perfect for the role along with those precise mind blowing punches :O and given the Magnitude of his plan. Almost every dialogue in the movie is worth going down in the books, and caine ( alfred ) delivered them with Oscar worthy flawlessness. Catwoman ( Anne Hathway) may not have her whip, but executes her role perfectly with Panache in those silicon heels.

Special shout to Hans Zimmer who developed that epic soundtrack which will give you chills throughout the movie. you have JUST got to believe in 'Christopher Nolan' and commend the Standard he has set with this trilogy.

Fits all expectations, maybe even more and is an impeccable end to the epic trilogy.

Steps for Undergrad Education in UK - III

Step six
Take any other additional tests. Some universities require additional testing. They have different examinations which would be basic English, maths and critical thinking skills check. Primarily , Oxbridge has these tests. Example : TSA (Thinking Skills Assessment) is the sort-of-entrance exam to politics ,philosophy and economics courses to the university of oxford. It is because of the high level of competition these tests have been initiated.

So, when you choose your universities , Don't Forget to write an email to each university asking for your specific course requirements and what all exactly needs to be done.

For Example; I chose city university as one of my 5 choices.Luckily, I had the chance to go visit the university last summer. Only then did i find out, that i needed to be at least 17 years and 8 months old to enter the course while i would be only 17 years and 2 months when i joined college. If i hadn't know this information, i would have been denied a place at the university and It would be too late by then to apply anywhere else.

Step seven
Personal Statement. undeniably , a very important part of your UCAS application. It is a 4000 character, 47 line or around 600 words essay ( concentrate on your character count and not word count). It is your statement of purpose to enter the university reflecting yourself as an individual.

writing your personal statement can be one of the most satisfying--or frustrating--writing experiences you'll ever have.

The personal statement is an important part of your application package. Depending on the topic you choose, the essay you write provides additional evidence of your intellectual and creative achievement. The essay is also the only opportunity for the readers of your application to get a feel for you as a person as well as for you as a student. The essay is also the place where you can put your academic and co-curricular record into the context of your opportunities and obstacles.

There is no one correct way to write a personal statement

1) Getting your grammar, spelling and punctuation is extremely important and there is no room for error.
2) You basically need to show that your determined and passionate about the subject
3) This is a chance for you to describe yourself and remember that there might be another thousand students with the same qualifications as you have, but it is You as a person that might be different, SO, the Personal statement is where you can shine depending on how you do it.

Take time, Draft , redraft and again redraft. Give your PS to family, councellors and teachers to proofread, as it is impossible to proofread your own essay.

Remember, plagiarism is the biggest mistake you can ever do. At any cost do not ever copy someone else's personal statement . Trust me , the UCAS have specialized software's to find out copy cats and your admission into the UK will be in jeopardy. You can refer to other personal statements for help and in fact its even advised you do so, but never copy.

Go the following link on UCAS and it will help you out a lot . but do check your course specific previous sample personal statement to get an idea, but refrain from using anything from the old ones. come up with you own personal story.

Check out this 37 minute video. It is extremely helpful and will answer almost all of your questions

This is the best video online for helping you out with your personal statement.

Steps for UK undergrad education - List

The easier way to understand and get through the UK undergrad admission process with our 12 step process explaining what to do and how to do it. These Steps should optimally start in grade 9 and get really serious by grade 11. Even if you are in grade 12, don't panic, there is still time .

Imp: If you are thinking about Oxford or Cambridge, your deadline for submitting your UCAS application is October 15; for most other universities in UK, the deadline is January 15th. But, my core advice to you would be to submit your application as soon as possible as UK admissions are based on first-come-first-serve basis. It means that if the place in the uni is already been given to a person and even if a more qualified candidate is available, the earlier one will still retain his place.

Step eight to step ten are not a part of the procedure and need to be developed well in advance.

Click on each step for detailed information.
Step One    -   Decide why UK ?
Step Two   -    Money Matters
Step Three  -   Understand the UCAS
Step Four   -   Research your Universities
Step Five    -   Take Your IELTS
